Jovana Tomin

This month I haven't collected many things too recommend, so I decided to make this into a favourites post this month. Let's start off with makeup.
The first makeup item I've been loving is the NYX Highlight & Contour Pro Palette. I've actually written a review of this, so I don't wanna repeat myself. I'll just say that I've been using is daily and not only as a face product, but also as eyeshadow.

Another product that has rocked my world is also from NYX and it's their Matte Lipstick in the shade Butter. It's a cool toned brown shade that's got a lot of grey undertones, so it might not suit everyone's skin tone. However, I've been loving combining it with a lip liner, but I'll talk about that combo in the next blog post.
Last but not least makeup wise is the Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara. I've also done a review of this lately, so I won't go into too much detail. I just love how you can achieve a very subtle look with this if that's what you're looking for, or you can go all out and get a false lash effect (not literally, of course).
Another beauty related product that I've been loving is coconut oil. I've been using it every night on my eyebrows and sometimes on my lashes. It's also great to use it on your hair the night before you wash it to make it really soft and refreshed. Other than that, you can use it on your lips, hands, or anywhere else really. You can also cook with it. What's not to love?

The last thing I'm gonna mention is not a product, but a work of art - I Like It When You Sleep, for You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware Of It. If you're reading this and thinking I've gone mad, don't worry I haven't, that's The 1975's new album. If you can get past the overly pretentious title, give the album a listen as it's uh-mazing! It has a lot of similar elements with their first album, but there's a bit of a stronger electronic vibe to it. At least that's how I would describe it. However, there are some up-beat songs and some slower ones, but all of them have beautiful lyrics. My favourite songs at the moment are The Sound, She's American, If I Believe You and This Must Be My Dream. If you're even remotely interested, go and give it a listen.
Those are some of the things I've been loving through February. You can share your favourite things in the comments bellow and I'll talk to you on Thursday.

Back in December I did a blog post saying that I was starting to use coconut oil to try and grow out my brows. I'd tried that trick with my eyelashes before, but I never really stuck to it completely. This time, I am dedicated.
Basically, I apply some coconut oil onto my eyebrows every night before I go to sleep. I've missed about five times since I started this 'project', if you will. Unlike with my eyelashes, I've actually noticed a bit of a difference - my eyebrows have grown and are slowly getting into the shape I want them in. They're still not super thick and, unfortunately, they're still not completely even, but they are getting there. I really like what they look like at the moment and I feel confident just applying some clear eyebrow gel on them and lining the bottom part to make them look a bit more tidy. Other than that, I don't feel like I have to fill them in in order to get them to be 'on fleek'.
If you're struggling with your brows, I recommend trying this trick out. I can't promise it will work on you, but it is working on me and that's why I still use it every night. Good luck!

We all know contouring and highlighting seems to be the biggest deal in makeup world at the moment, and of course I, like everyone else, couldn't resist joining the bandwagon. I'd been using eyeshadows or my brow powder for quite some time until my friends kindly decided to buy me this palette for my birthday (I may have given them a hint).
This is a palette of 8 shades - 2 shimmery
highlighters, 2 matte powders (a banana one and a translucent one) and 4 contouring/bronzing powders. I've been using the two powders for setting my makeup - the yellow one underneath my eyes and anywhere I want a bit of a highlighted look, and the translucent one everywhere else. I'll be hones, I like them, but I do prefer the Rimmel Stay Matte Powder for setting my makeup. This does work as a nice alternative since I ran out of my Stay Matte Powder.
The two shimmery highlighters I've been applying to the tops of my cheekbones and my upper lip. Sometimes I go crazy and apply some on my nose as well. I like highlighting as much as the next girl so this is one of my favourite makeup steps. I'll either use only one of these depending on my mood, or I'll go all out and use both. I love them because they're very different shades, but both work on my skin and make me look super glowy and fresh.
As for the contouring shades, I mostly use the two middle ones (Toffee and Sculpt) together and hollow out my cheekbones a bit, nothing too crazy. I like my contour to look as natural as possible. If I want to look more bronzed, I'll use the first one (Tan). The darkest one (Hollow) is pretty intense, so I only use it when I'm feeling really bold. They're all pretty easy to blend and you can either achieve a really strong contour if you like, or a nice natural one. You can also just bronze your face a bit if that's what you like doing. I also really like using all four of these to create a bomb brown smokey eye.
That's how I use it and my thoughts on it. All in all, I would recommend investing in this palette, I feel like it's close to all the high-end contour palette, but a fraction of the price. It's not super cheap, but it's worth the money, in my opinion. All the powders come out, so I guess you can refill it.
P.S. Keep in mind the camera doesn't really pick up the shades perfectly, sorry about that.

I'm slightly late with there cause it's the 7th of February already, but better late than never. I've been a bit busy with school and life stuff, so I've deprived you of Thursday posts. They should be coming back soon as I'm finishing writing my thesis tomorrow. Let's get to the recommendations now.
○ January TV Show: Modern Family
I'm pretty sure you've all heard about this show because I am very late to the bandwagon. However, for the past few weeks I've been obsessed with it. I don't know how to begin explaining it. It's basically about a huge family that's full of diversities. There's Phil and Claire raising three kids - Haley (the popular girl), Alex (the nerdy one) and Luke (the youngest who's kind of a daddy's boy) - all very different from one another. Then we have Claire's dad Jay who's married to a Latina woman close to Claire's age and has got a son (Manny) from her first marriage. Lastly, Jay's son and Claire's brother (obviously) who's gay and has adopted an Asian girl Lily with his partner Cam. It can be a bit of a struggle to remember all of them and their relations, but regardless the show is hilarious. Because everyone is so different, it makes it really fun and exciting and they've got some really good jokes. Also, they seem to fall over a lot which is always the funniest thing. If you haven't yet, give it a try, you'll love it.
○ January Movie: Grease Live
Everyone has seen Grease and probably not just once, but this time it comes in a new version and it was all done live. I'm not gonna describe what it's about because I'm sure everyone knows. But Grease Live is a TV special where they remade the movie and did it all live in front of a crowd. It's amazing how good they were considering how quickly they had to change scenes and costumes and stay energetic. I highly recommend it if you like Grease.
○ January Book: Albert Camus - The Stranger
This is one of the few books I've had to read for school and actually ended up liking it. It's based on the philosophy of the absurd and existentialism. The main character is Meursault who makes the reader question their moral standards, I guess. Meursault is a very indifferent person, to the point where he doesn't pay much attention to his mother's death. He doesn't say much unless he thinks it necessary, which he rarely does, he doesn't care about his relationships with other people. He ends up committing a murder for which his only excuse is that he was too hot. Everyone judges him based on his indifference and amoral behaviour. I really liked the novel because it's written in a really simple style and it's easy to read, but there's so much more to it, there's a lot to think about and analyze. If you're looking for a book that will make you scratch your head and question some things, definitely give this a try. It's about a hundred pages long, so it will take a day or two to read, but will definitely leave an impression on you.

That's all for this month. I'm off to watch some more Modern Family and write my thesis, so I'll talk to you next week (probably Sunday).
