''Nothing is instant.'' - John Green, Looking for Alaska

I've already talked about a similar quote and that one was also by John Green. So I am simply going to summarise that one. I love how this sentence is so simple, yet so effective. I feel like nowadays we expect everything to be done as quick as possible and the Internet is partially to blame for that. Everything is so quick and easy online, isn't it? Hence why we expect real life to be the same. But it isn't. Real life is messy and gets ugly sometimes and things take time. Commuting takes time, forming friendships takes time, learning stuff takes time as so do all the things in out lives - nothing is instant. So, we should all try and not rush through life, but actually take the time to enjoy ourselves a little bit more.

''At some point, you have to stop looking up at the sky, or one of these days, you’ll look back down and see that you floated away, too.'' - John Green, Paper Towns

I mean, this quote just speaks for itself, doesn't it? I don't wanna stifle you with words today, I think you can get the just very easily yourself. John Green definitely has a way of words and I think that's the reason why so many teens and young adults love his novels. During my own John Green phase, I wrote down loads of quotes that I loved and most of them I still adore to this day. This one is a great example. Basically, the message is stop living in your head and start noticing the life going on around you because it has loads to offer if you just start living it. Reality is only as grey as you make it, you don't need to hide from it. Actually, you shouldn't hide from it, because you don't want to float away while life continues to go on.

''You spend your whole life stuck in the labyrinth, thinking about how you'll escape it one day, and how awesome it will be, and imagining that future keeps you going, but you never do it. You just use the future to escape the present.'' John Green, Looking for Alaska

If you aren't new to my blog, you will know that I am a huge John Green fan so elaborating his quote can't come as a surprise. You might also know that Looking for Alaska is one of my favourite books, so this blog post was bound to happen.
As you can imagine, this is my favourite quote because I can relate to it 100% just like a lot of you. I could get really deep into this topic, but no one cares that much, so I'll keep it simple. If you're one of the people who haven't read this book, I feel obligated to tell you that the said labyrinth is the labyrinth of suffering. Definitely doesn't have to be as severe as it sounds, but we all have our worries and problems. Due to that fact, I can imagine that a lot of us like to picture our life being a lot different and better in the future. Near or far, but the future is where we take refuge from all the stress. And by trying to escape the present situation and plan out how our lives will turn out once we forget to participate in the present. I think you get the gist of what I mean.  Why do we do this? To comfort ourselves, no doubt. But I think we should try and enjoy our lives as much as we can until that better tomorrow we are hoping for comes along. Also, it most likely will not get better on its own, try to make a difference yourself. Try getting out instead of escaping. It takes time, but you learn so much more by actually taking part in your own life and dealing with things rather than being absent and not caring about now. Some would say that all we have is now. Keep that in mind.

o   October TV Show: Suits

Talented actors, beautiful guys and a lot of plot twists - this show will have you hooked whether you are a fan of drama or not. It takes place at a prestige law firm in Manhattan, New York. Harvey, the hotshot lawyer, and Mike Ross, the fraud, take on the world of law inforcement with their brilliant theories and undeniable bromance chemistry. The show does involve a few romantic relationships and a lot of funny scenes. I never used to be a fan of ‘serious shows’ a.k.a shows that aren’t sitcoms, but lately I’ve been branching out of that pattern a lot. My friends made me watch this show, even though I told myself I wouldn’t, and they got me absolutely obsessed. Also, the theme song is such a mood lifter! If you decide to watch it, you’re welcome. Oh, and season 5 comes out in 2015, sorry.
o   October Book: John Green – Paper Towns

I know what you’re thinking – "John Green again". Yes, him again. This is one of those books I’ve been planning on reading for so long and hardly got around to it. But when I did get around to it, oh boy, I could not stop reading it. As always, Mr. Green succeeds to make the readers keep wanting more. I was a mess of emotions while reading this book - from excited to sad to happy to actually scared. I found myself looking around the room to see if I was alone. No, it’s not a horror book in any way, but some parts made me feel a bit jumpy. As every other John Green book, this one is as well overflowing with metaphors, symbols and a bunch of other figures of speech. Even though it is so incredibly difficult to pick only one, I think my favourite quote has to be: “I'm starting to realize that people lack good mirrors. It's so hard for anyone to show us how we look, & so hard for us to show anyone how we feel”. I am not going to give away any details because I feel it could ruin it. I think the quote was enough of a spoiler. To sum up, if you're looking for a good read over the weekend, go for Paper Towns. I will take the blame if you fall in love with it and fail to function properly in real life after you're done reading it.
○ October App: 8tracks

Looking for a free version of Spotify? Well, you needn't look further, I've got you covered. I found this app called 8tracks a few months ago and ever since, I have used it every single day. All you need to do to gain access to an infinite number of playlists is make an account with your e-mail address. It is that simple. Once you've done that, that's where all the fun begins. You can search different genres, artists, titles and you will see long lists of various playlists to chose from. You can also make your own playlists, the only trick is they have to contain at least 8 tracks. My current favourite playlists are: combat boots and flannels (by peetaamellrk), Oblivion (by gabbidk) and 2:39 am (by arcticmonito).

○ October Band: The 1975

Everybody who knows me is familiar with the fact that I am obsessed with bands, so it doesn't come as a surprise when I discover a new one (which, by the way, happens very often). Not too long ago, I was just in the middle of listening to a random playlist on 8tracks when I heard a song I quite liked. It was Chocolate by The 1975. And it was not long after that that I noticed their song Sex creep up on me in a bunch of playlists. So I gave them a go and ended up absolutely loving their songs. Their self-titled debut album is a mix of 16 indie rock tracks, my personal favourites are the previously mentioned ones. In a nutshell, they are an English indie rock boy bend with a stunningly attractive lead singer called Matthew (known as Matty) Healy. So, if you have not yet heard about this band, I highly recommend looking them up.
That would be all for my October Recommendations, but don't pout, I've got a lot of hopefully exciting posts coming. Keep your eyes peeled. Come back on Monday for a new playlist.

Today I thought I’d do a blog post about my all time favourite things, as you’ve probably guessed from the title. I thought since I’m doing monthly recommendations, it would be pointless to do monthly favourites as well. This is the next best thing. The favourites won’t be related to fashion or beauty. Now that we’ve got that settled, let’s begin.
